Thursday 9 September: to Dent

We are sad to leave Usha Gap Farm: so peaceful and rural but with great facilities. We say goodbye to our neighbours whose daughter is a GP and lives in Topsham! Perhaps we will meet for a coffee one day. Having cycled and walked the Buttertubs Pass we now drive it. I know which feels the easiest and Simon enjoys the bends. Down into Hawes we stock up on provisions and have a coffee before walking to Hardraw Falls: an impressive 30m high single drop waterfall, the highest in England we gather! We have to take a scenic detour onwards due to road closures passing Ribblehead Viaduct and manage a narrow pass through wild countryside before dropping down into Dentdale and the River Dee. Our campsite is High Laning and is just outside the village of Dent. We find a secluded pitch at the far end of the field with spectacular views. We do our usual to-ing and fro-ing to get us flat ( thanks Dad for the spirit level advice… not!!) and can finally enjoy a cup of tea. It is humid and storms are forecast. Probably drizzle tomorrow but tomorrow is another day! Tart’s Pasta on the menu this evening.
